Orca Overlook sits perched on a hillside overlooking some of the most Orca traveled waters in Haro Strait and the Salish Sea. A brand new large deck, surrounded by trees, gives one the feeling of being in a tree house. After you watch the sunset over Vancouver Island in the distance, move indoors to the cozy living room to stream Fire TV (no satellite reception). The home features large windows that look out over the sea, so bring your binoculars.

The open loft, living room, and kitchen are ideal for enjoying your family vacation together. There are two private bedrooms, one with a comfortable queen-size bed and the other with a full-size bed. A third room has a pull-out queen sofa bed. There are also two full bathrooms (one with shower and one with tub) on the main floor.

The kids and family will definitely enjoy the loft which is set up to be a game area, complete with a round card table and dart board. Downstairs, the well equipped kitchen is complete with a bar counter and bar stools for staying in touch with whoever is doing the meal preparation. Nearby is a dining table for indoor dinner seating. If it is a nice sunny day you may choose to eat out on the deck where there is additional seating under a beautiful green sun umbrella, where evening sunsets abound.

A short walk down the access road leads to a community beach shared by four homes in the area. This property is also adjacent to the West Side San Juan Island County park with its beach for launching kayaks and having a picnic.

San Juan sanctuary

This house was an incredible and peaceful stay for a few days after the Christmas holiday. The home is well appointed with all of the cooking gadgets you could possibly need, and the rooms are well furnished and comfortable. There were even blackout blinds in the master bedroom allowing me to sleep in longer than I can remember in a long time. A big bonus is that it is directly adjacent to San Juan park so beauty, convenience and lots of quiet. Plus, you really just cannot beat the view. The sun rises, the sun sets, all breathtaking. Beyond that, northwest island escapes was incredibly communicative and helpful leading up to the stay, during the stay as well as after. I would highly recommend this home for future stays as well as partnering with northwest island adventures. Kyle was awesome!!!

Great Week for Orcas!

This is our second year in a row vacationing at this home on the West Side. Once you find the perfect place, why change? We were lucky to spot the JPod of Orcas right from our window on two different nights. The Bald Eagles were hanging out in the tree right off the deck too. May is a perfect time because the weather is nice but the island is not crowded at all. This place accommodated our family perfectly. We love some downtime so didn't need TV but enjoyed a couple of classics in the DVD library and played darts until our arms were sore. We also saw some beautiful sunsets just to the north. We hope to make this a regular vacation spot. Thank you!!

Wonderful Stay!

We had a three generation girls trip and this location was just lovely! We loved the beautiful views, we saw orcas from the deck most days passing through. Very scenic and quiet! Would love to stay here again.

This was a comfortable house with a good kitchen and a large deck. Easy walk next door to San Juan County park and only a few miles drive to Lime Kiln. Bed was comfortable, Kitchen well equipped. Would recommend for 4 people although listing allows 6, but 2 would be on a fold out couch. Overall, we look forward to staying here again, and found the management company communicative and professional. House was clean. Stove is a little tricky to figure out the first time, use google if you need to. WiFi worked well at speeds of 25mbps.

Peaceful and beautiful retreat

Just as pictured! Very well equipped rental with a fantastic view and porch. On the opposite side of the island from town, but we seemed to get better weather. We were able to arrange a kayak tour that started directly from the county park next door. Great communication and support from the property manager.

I’ve used VRBOs before BUT NEVER HAD SUCH A NICE PLACE

Clean, well equipped, view to die for... what more could you ask for? Yep - super comfortable beds, nice hot showers, and great TV viewing with surround sound. It is 20 minute drive to town but totally worth it for the peace and quiet. Delightful place - truly.

A great retreat on San Juan Island.

This is a stellar property for a getaway. Home had a beautiful view and large wrap around deck facing the water. It was extremely comfortable and bright and had a well equipped kitchen. We hope to plan a return visit.

Orca overview lived up to expectations

Beautiful, spacious house with an absolutely stunning view from whole front room and deck. Completely fenced in and safe for dog. Kids loved the dart board in the games room. Orcas showed up and we viewed them from the deck. County park and beach a couple of minutes walk away. All in a really wonderful place to stay on the island,

Wonderful stay. Beautiful view and place was clean and nicely decorated. Wonderfully stocked kitchen tools and nice BBQ.
The only issue was the limited number of TV channels(3).

Outstanding!

The views were spectacular and ever-changing. Home was beautiful, well appointed and had more than adequate supplies to prep meals. Deck added lovely outdoor space for AM coffee and eve meals. Sofa bed was large and moved to a third bedroom, leaving loft for art and crafts, etc. It is exactly as pictured. Very clean. We wish the fireplace had worked and that there had been more lamp light at nighttime. No noise from county park and its close presence made beach access easy. 10 stars!!

Perfect place to stay to feel at home and watch for whales

We enjoyed Orca Overlook and it was the perfect location for our trip. Our goal was to spend time whale watching. The San Juan county park is close by and we were able to have a wide view of the straight from there. Lime Kiln was also within a few minutes for spectacular sunset pictures. We took quite a few beautiful sunset pictures right off the balcony of Orca Overlook also! There is a good view of Canada, with sparkling lights for maybe Victoria across the strait. The home had all the amenities and conveniences that we could have asked for. Thanks for the spices and tote bag/ we used it to carry our stuff while we toured the island! Lots of nice touches and very clean. Beds were comfortable and plenty of hot water! Wifi was slow, but usable. Our favorite restaurants were Madrona Bar and Grill, Downriggers and San Juan Island Cheese (really good and unique). San Juan Safaris and San Juan Excursions, both were great whale watching companies - they make every effort to see the whales and we did! Pelindaba Lavender Farm is worth a side trip also! We definitely plan to return! Thanks!

Gorgeous Views, Wonderful Home

The deck and huge windows looking out into the bay and surrounded by magestic trees make this home the perfect spot to relax. Kitchen has everything you want and need. Linens and beds are comfy and good quality. Gas fireplace is nice, but a little noisy. Would definitely stay again.

Cooking with a view

A great spot to watch the lights of Victoria, passing ships and eagles.
The kitchen was so well supplied that we cooked most meals with equipment similar to ours at home.
And the home is clean! It felt good and we will return. Lovely spot.

Unplug and LFW

Beautiful house on the remote side of the island. Beautiful views of the sound. Although the house is listed as having internet, it is unusably slow (probably fine if you're checking email - but torture if you have to work). Only cell coverage is for Canadian providers.

So if your goal is to "get away from it all" and Look For Whales, this is the house for you!

great house

we stayed for a week. The only real problem we had was the water pressure. It was not real strong and got worse as the week went...shoud have called..guess they were working on the lines. Very nicely stocked kitchen and home.

Stunning views

We rented Orca Overlook for a six-night stay on San Juan Island. We had a wonderful vacation here - the views of Haro Strait are amazing (I even saw a whale spout!), and the house is perfect for an extended stay. The decor is a bit dated (along with the appliances), but you aren't staying here for the decor. The deck is the highlight - we saw some spectacular sunsets while enjoying fresh oysters from Westcott Bay Shellfish (which is just a short drive from the house). We also saw several deer and my husband saw an owl fly overhead. We would definitely stay here again!

We had one request for management - we thought that a screen for the sliding door would be great to allow the breezes to come in, without allowing any insects. A very friendly woman from the company stopped over within the hour and installed a screen flap over the door - we were quite impressed with that level of customer service!
