Garden Retreat is a new listing for 2018, located 3/4 mile from the laid back Doe Bay Resort that offers a variety of entertainment, an outstanding restaurant and also has a beautiful beach, salt water soaking tubs and sauna next to a lovely stream with views of Doe Bay. Also offered seasonally are massage, Yoga services and Kayak rentals and tours.

Now to the home, which is delightful in its own right. It uses a reverse floor plan with most living space upstairs to take advantage of the garden views and a large delightful deck for dining, entertaining, or just sipping wine in the evening. This area of Orcas Island enjoys some of the warmest weather, delightful surroundings and wonderful morning sun. You'll enjoy strolling through the lovely large gardens, which have organically grown peaches, apples and pears, along with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries that are available for guests to pick in season.

Inside upstairs, you will find a large living room, dining room and kitchen combination great room concept. Down the hall are the Master Bedroom with its own private full bath and a second bedroom with a shared guest bath. The master has a new luxury pillow top king bed and the second bedroom enjoys a comfortable full-size bed with windows overlooking the garden. Outside on the large deck is a full compliment of outdoor furniture for your lounging enjoyment.

Downstairs you'll find the third bedroom with a new Queen pillow top bed and its own bathroom along with a second activity room/game room with games galore. There is also a queen size Aerobed for additional sleeping accommodations. Talk about a good layout for family fun with separation privacy. Great for two families to enjoy. Excellent quality furnishings throughout including large screen new Smart Tv's upstairs and down. Outside is an underdeck patio to shade you from the sun that occurs so often given the normally wonderful Orcas summer days and evenings.

This is going to be a very popular home so we would recommend making your reservations before the calendar fills on this new listing.

    We were attending a wedding and booked pretty late for up to 8 people. The house was large, lovely and beautifully maintained, although one light was out in the master bathroom, and there was a vase of dead flowers on the table. The beds were lovely and comfortable and the place was very quiet. I would suggest perhaps providing a privacy screen for anyone who is sleeping on any of the couches. Also, because the closet is locked off in the master bedroom, there was no place to hang up any of our dress clothes for the wedding. We had trouble using the direct TV to watch a movie. Perhaps you could leave some directions. We did not explore the grounds or cook there. The kitchen appeared to be well appointed. I think that the price of the house was fair, but I did not expect a $250 cleaning fee and a non-refundable damage deposit. AT $25/hr, that would pay for 10 hours of cleaning. And a damage deposit should be refunded if there is no damage. Overall, I think the total price was too high. I would recommend it for a lower price, and with the modifications mentioned above. I also think a sauna or a hot tub would be a reasonable amenity in a location so remote.

      Thank you for writing your review and complimenting the home you stayed in. We will address the light bulb out in the master bathroom and appreciate the report. This home does have extremely comfortable new beds. The owner spent a lot of time and energy setting this home up for vacation rental service. We will put better directions as to TV usage and where to find movies. The homes do not provide pay-per-movie services, so you are on your own for movies, other than Netflix and Amazon which have many free movies and, of course, you can use your personal account to purchase movies. When it comes to pricing within the reservation, there are no hidden fees. Everything is spelled out in detail prior to you pushing the booking button. If I may explain, we pay our housekeepers $35/hour which is the going rate in the Islands. There is a limited pool of qualified housekeepers such that they make more than mainland housekeepers. We send a team of two for this size house and they work anywhere from 8 to 12 hours to make the house sparkling clean for the next guest. Hence, the $250 departure clean charge that was outlined in your reservation is very reasonable. The security deposit you thought should be returned was only $49. In fact the security deposit for this home is $500 and if you had posted that, it would have been returned in full if no damage occurred. You didn't pay a security deposit, you purchased a damage waiver which covered up for up to $500 of accidental damage. That's why it wasn't returned. We appreciate having had you visit our wonderful Orcas Island and your positive review of Garden Retreat! General Manager

    highly recommend!! This home had no reviews but was one of the only left on the island so we took it. Glad we did!! Very clean home and well taken care of. Easy to find and just a short walk to Doe Bay Resort. Separate living space upstairs and down for those who want adult space and child space. Peek aboo view of the water is nice but you cannot go wrong with any view on Orcas. If you come in at night be aware that the instructions sent to us said that the Key box was on left side of the door.... but it is on the right. At night it can make initial entry complicated. Also, there are 2 potential front doors. One up top and one entering the daylight basement ... Daylight Basement is the lock box entry but that was not detailed on instructions. Great place none the less.
